How Setup Works
Get your car talking to CarHealthData
CarHealthData lets you see what your vehicle is doing in real time by connecting
your car, your phone, and your account. Setup is simple: buy a compatible OBD-II
dongle, plug it into the car, connect the app, and link your account so your data
appears to you on the website for analysis.
What you get for free: You can create an account, connect your car,
and view your incoming raw data on the website (limited number of records - so you know it works).
Paid subscription required: AI analysis, downloadable reports, and
advanced data features require a subscription.
1
You will need a small Bluetooth OBD-II adapter (sometimes called a dongle).
This plugs into your car’s diagnostic port and reads live engine data.
- Choose a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter supported by the CarHealthData app
- Most gasoline cars sold in the U.S. from 1996 onward have an OBD-II port
- A quality adapter is worth it; very cheap clones can be unreliable
2
Find the OBD-II port in your car
The OBD-II port is usually under the dashboard on the driver’s side, often near
the steering column or lower dash trim.
- Turn the car off before first installation
- Insert the dongle firmly into the port
- Once installed, the dongle usually remains in place
3
Install the CarHealthData app on your phone
The mobile app talks to the dongle over Bluetooth and sends vehicle data securely
to your CarHealthData account.
- Install the app on your supported Android phone
- Enable Bluetooth on the phone
- Open the app and allow the permissions it needs
4
Create your CarHealthData identity
Create your account on the website using your email address and password. This
gives you your personal identity in the system so your data belongs to you and
can be viewed later on the website.
- Sign up on the website
- Verify your email if requested
- Log in to access your dashboard and vehicle data
5
Link the app to your account
After creating your account, you will link the app on your phone to that account.
This allows incoming data from your car to be stored under your identity.
- Log in on the website
- Get your link code or account link instructions
- Enter the code in the app to connect your phone and website account
6
Connect the app to the dongle
With the dongle installed and the phone nearby, the app scans for your adapter
and connects to it over Bluetooth.
- Turn the key to accessory or start the engine
- Open the app and select your dongle
- The app begins reading supported live vehicle data
7
Drive and send live data
Once connected, the app reads vehicle data such as RPM, speed, coolant
temperature, throttle position, fuel-trim behavior, and related engine values.
That data is sent to your account so you can review it on the website.
- Use the app while the car is running
- Data is uploaded to your account as sessions are recorded
- You can then log in on the website and view the incoming raw data
8

What CarHealthData does for you
CarHealthData does more than display numbers. It helps turn ordinary OBD-II data
into useful insight about how your vehicle is behaving over time. Even when cars
expose only a limited standard set of engine data, patterns in that data can still
reveal useful trends.
Free users can watch the raw data stream. Subscribers can run deeper analysis and
download results for record-keeping, troubleshooting, and long-term tracking.
