Supported OBD-II Devices

Car Health Data works best with a quality Bluetooth Low Energy OBD-II adapter. We recommend Vgate BLE devices, especially models we have already tested successfully.

Our Recommendation

Best tested choice: Vgate iCar Pro BLE

We used the Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth OBD-II scanner successfully in development and testing. It has proven to be a solid choice for connecting your vehicle to the Car Health Data app.

Recommended device:
Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth / BLE OBD-II adapter - which you can get HERE (Note, we aren't making any money from this link or your purchase. We're just trying to make this as easy as possible, and be sure it all works for you!)

Can I use other Vgate devices?

Yes — in many cases you can. We expect other Vgate BLE 4.0 or newer devices to work as well, provided they support:

In plain English: if it is a genuine Vgate Bluetooth Low Energy OBD-II adapter and behaves like a standard ELM327 device, it will probably work with our system.

What we suggest

Officially recommended

  • Vgate iCar Pro BLE
  • Vgate iCar Pro 2S
  • Vgate BLE models with ELM327 compatibility

Use caution with

  • Older non-BLE Bluetooth adapters
  • Wi-Fi OBD-II adapters
  • Very cheap generic “ELM327” clones

Important note about iPhone compatibility

If you want an adapter that can work well with iPhone / iOS, you should choose a BLE 4.0 or newer device.

Older “classic Bluetooth” adapters may work on some Android devices but often do not work properly with iPhone.

Why we recommend one known device

Even though several adapters may work, we prefer to recommend one known-good model so setup is easier and support is simpler.

For that reason, our guidance is simple:

Tested and recommended: Vgate iCar Pro BLE
Other Vgate BLE adapters may work, but are not officially guaranteed.
